Just got back from 2008 USSSA National Convention. Trying to keep you all updated on the changes that occurred.

We had some lively debate on the new ball, final decision is that we will go with .40 core ball for the year. Leagues and tournaments have until September 1 to use up their supply of the old balls.

Worlds were announced. Lubbock bid E, Hispanic, and Mixed C and we were in debate for each, but cities with more fields won out....Men's D teams pack your bags for Sterling Heights. Men's B, C, E-East and all the Women's are at Disney. Hispanic is at Field of Dreams in Houston the first weekend in Novemeber. E- West in Federal Way, Washington (Seatle). Military is once again in Panama City, Mixed D is at Disney again and Mixed C and E are in West Columbus, South Carolina and Gilbert, Arizona respectively. Black American is at Disney.

Amarillo will host Men's D National next year, unless there are changes the National (or divisional) venues will be:

Men's B- Little Rock, Ark August 22-23
Men's C- Shawnee, Ks August 29-30
Boomer in Ok September 5-6
Men's D- Hutchinson, Ks August 29-30
Amarillo, Tx August 29-30
Euless, Tx August 29-30
Men's E- Kansas City, Mo September 5-6
Tulsa, Ok September 5-6
Houston, Tx August 29-30
Clovis, NM August 28-29-30
Women's- Shawnee, Ks August 29-30
Austin, Tx August 29-30

Everybody including the ladies will be required to play in their respective State and National to go to Worlds in 2009.

We did get an announcement on what I think will be one cool change. We can now award berths in the Men's B, C, D and E program to teams that don't earn a paid berth or a State At Large Berth. The berth is unpaid and I can give one to any team that played a specified number of tournaments with us. That number is set at 10 in state USSSA tournaments and you can go. Those 10 have to include an NIT and respective State Tournament and then you have to travel for the National.

A couple other things occurred - teams can now drop four players from a frozen qualified roster but still have to do so by August 20. You can also now create a roster spot for an add with a drop. In the past if you had more than 16 rostered players when you froze, you lost the adds for those spots. Now if you freeze for instance with 20, you can drop four (as long as it's by August 20) to add four. Helpful and overdue change

Teams that are/were reclassified have to complete the year at that level or appeal to be reclassified from June 1 - July 1.

Thanks for playing USSSA!
